Losing weight or staying fit is a journey that is very hard to go on alone. If you notice that several people that made some resolutions quit half way because they don’t have anyone to keep them accountable. When I decided enough was enough, I was very tired of people calling me “short and thick” or “short and round.” My boobs, thighs, and arms were bigger than my short self could carry, double chin and all the love handles that the whole world could grab. Keeping myself accountable was how I was able to make this journey a lifestyle. I paid to be part of several groups just so that I could be accountable to someone. I needed help because I was clueless and I felt that if I could tag along someone, I would succeed. Several things I’ve learnt would be shared in this post.

So, who needs accountability? Everyone! Even during the time of creations, God created everything in twos so that one could support the other. To lose weight, you have to keep yourself accountable. If you want a healthy lifestyle, you need accountability. When people know what you are about, it would be difficult for you to fail. I know a lot of people that started this same journey with me but they are stuck because they failed to make themselves accountable.

HOW DO YOU KEEP YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE?

Start by looking around you and find someone that have the same goal as you. Two unserious people =no progress, lol. Don’t use emotion to pick a partner. Look out and see who you can motivate and who can motivate you. The problem these days is that people want to take without giving anything in return. Look at your partner’s goal and make his/her goal your goal and let your partner do the same for you. I’m featuring my accountability partner, Diana this week. We have been through it all. People don’t realize why we are close, Fitness brought us together. This journey brought us together. We tagged along each other and have been doing this for years. We keep each other accountable without holding back.

  • Look for someone who has gone through your journey before and ask for “guidance.” This is where we make things worse, you cannot ask for guidance and expect the person to do all the work required for you. Commit yourself to whatever tool you are given and earn your freedom. Continue to give feedbacks and ask questions.
  • Don’t be idle. I can say this over and over again, don’t hide your journey. Gosh, I have heard it from several people that would say, “I’m just doing this thing slowly,’ or “I cannot put myself out there,” or “I want people to be surprised to see the fat disappear,” “I don’t want people in my business,” and so on. Give these people 3 months, you would notice that the journey has ended. When people know what you are doing, they would be the first to call you out when you are working against what you said you are about. If I don’t post my workouts on Social media in a week, I would get several messages from people asking me what is going on. This is what I have been doing for several years and it’s the only way I can keep myself accountable. Some may think that I post my workouts to show off, but my workouts are posted to encourage someone, so that you could try them and to keep myself accountable. I know that If I don’t post, I would easily get lazy. Yes, I do get tired and constantly lack motivation but thank God for Social media.
  • Invest in yourself. Stop looking for freebies or being sneaky instead of asking lol. Google is filled with information you need anyways; the only thing is that freebies is NOT one size fits all. It could work for someone and may not work for you. If you invest, you would appreciate it more. Facebook has lots of paid and free accountability groups that you could join, that may fit your needs.
  • Don’t just say it, just do it! Like Instagram or facebook pages with like passion. I followed several fitness pages and I always get motivated each time I see a workout post. Maybe this could help you also. Follow pages from people that have gone through your journey because this would also keep your sanity. Most times one can get discouraged if we are looking at posts/body of someone who was skinny all their live or someone who has never had a child, because they don’t have your struggles. I have had to unfollow several people because they don’t have my struggles.

I hope that you would be able to use some of these tips. Have you used or are you using some of them? Let me know which one. Until next time, lets continue to make living healthy a lifestyle.

Pictures included are some people that have also inspired me.

XOXO Forlahkeh
